The Judges

Chua Chim Kang
Chua Chim Kang is the editor of omy.sg and Lianhe Wanbao. He is also a prolific blogger and frequent guest at talk shows and radio programs.

Royston Tan
Royston Tan has been heralded as Singapore’s most promising young filmmaker and the latest film icon for Singapore. Known for his distinctive knack for cinematic narrative, original directorial style and an innate ability to connect with his audience, he has collected over 37 international and local film awards for his short films, documentaries and recently, his feature films.

In 2001, he was conferred ASEAN Director of the Year. In 2002, he was named Young Artist of the Year by the Singapore National Arts Council. He has recently won the Best Director title in Singapore Film Awards of 22nd SIFF Silver Screen Awards.

Kelvin Tong
An award-winning Singapore film-maker, Kelvin Tong’s work is marked by an exciting eclecticism that defies categorization. Although trained as a shipping lawyer, Kelvin Tong started out in the film business as a film critic, writing reviews for The Straits Times from 1995 to 1999.

His first feature was the 1999 martial arts comedy, Eating Air. His next film, The Maid, a horror thriller, made a big impact, breaking the box office record in Singapore for the horror genre, making S$700,000 on its opening weekend. Hailed as the first Singaporean horror film, The Maid won the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation Asian Film Award at the 10th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. Another film, Rule #1, has won the Best Film title in Singapore Film Awards of 22nd SIFF Silver Screen Awards.

Kelvin has his own production company, Boku Films, enabling him to independently develop his film projects.

Man Shu Sum
Man Shu Sum is a well-known figure in the local media landscape and is the current CEO of Mark Burnett Productions Asia. His previous appointments include, the director of strategic relations at the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore and director of Singapore Film Commission (SFC).

Kuo Jian Hong
After obtaining her Masters in Stage Design (University of Iowa) and Masters in Directing (University of Hawaii), Jian Hong took her talent in designing to various drama festivals and theatre groups in Iowa.

Back in Singapore, Jian Hong’s early efforts have gone mostly toward lighting design for theatre and dance productions, including TheatreWorks’s production of Descendents of the Eunuch Admiral. She is also credited as the set, costume, and lighting designer for The Theatre Practice’s production of A Silly Little Girl and The Funny Old Tree.

Jian Hong has also directed for film. At present, she has directed two major films, Dog Story and Avatar.

Anna Lim
Anna is an on-air host in the media industry. As a radio deejay at Radio 1003, Anna's daily Chinese-language radio show in Singapore centers around lifestyle issues such as food, medicine and health.

Xiao Han
Xiaohan (小寒) is a leading female lyricist in the Chinese Pop Music scene. Based in Singapore, her lyrics are sought after by many top-selling artistes such as Sandy Lam, Stefanie Sun and Tanya Chua. Breaking into the industry in 1998, Xiaohan has since established her name with her lyrics that focuses on the inner-most feelings of modern city dwellers, especially those of women.

Samuel Ng Beng Teck
Executive Consultant, Marine Parade Family Service Centre

Mr Samuel Ng, an Executive Consultant of Marine Parade Family Service Centre, has served the social service sector for approximately 16 years. He is the Outstanding Social Worker in 2001, awarded by National Council of Social Service. He is also the Principal of YAH!, a community college for life-long learning for elderly.

Samuel has make appearances in talk shows on TV, Radio and other events, speaking on topics raising social concerns.

Uzyn Chua
U-Zyn Chua is a web developer, a geek and a serial entrepreneur. He has founded a few local startups and one of them is Ping.sg, which started back in 2006. Ping.sg still remains one of the top blog aggregators for Singapore bloggers. Ping.sg is completely automated, from aggregating blogs, to ranking popular posts depending on user actions and it aims to further improve to be a complete and comprehensive blog aggregator and online blogger community for Singapore.
